I had an interesting conversation with a client today, and
she asked how cost-efficient laser hair removal is. This type of inquiries aren’t
unusual because in our clinic, we ask for service fees in advance. This applies
to our package offers of 6-10 treatments.
I’ve done some research and found out just how much each
type of hair removal costs. I’ve also included a pain scale from 1-10, because
for some people (like me) this is an extremely important factor to consider.
Also included is the time allotted for each year accumulated.
-----
SHAVING: Costs roughly $15 a month, with the average
cost of shaving blades and creams.
Pain factor: 2/10. For nicks, razor burn,
folliculitis, ingrown hairs
This amounts to:
- - 1 Year - $180 (1 day, 6 hours)
- - 2 Years - $360 (2 days, 12+ hours)
- - 5 Years - $900 (5 years, 12+ days)
- - 10 Years - $1800 (20 years, 25+ days)
-----
WAXING: $65 on average, roughly $50 for legs and $15
for underarms.
Pain factor: 8/10. This is where a good waxer comes in.
Someone who knows what they’re doing shouldn’t be excruciating.
This amounts to:
- - 1 Year - $780 (6 hours)
- - 5 Years - $3900 (1 day, 6 hours)
- - 10 Years - $7,800 (2.5 days)
- - 20 Years - $15,600 (5 days)
Verdict: Most painful
-----
LASER: $235 per session from a board-certified
dermatologist
Pain factor: 5/10. For IPL, it feels like ants or a rubber
band hitting your skin.
- - 1 Year - $940 (4 hours)
- - 5 Years - $1880 (8 hours)
- - 10 Years - $3,055 (13 hours)
- - 20 Years - $5405 (23 hours)
Verdict: Least time spent
In terms of cost-efficiency, hair
removal comes down to time, money, and pain tolerance. Decide which is most
important to you and you can move in that direction.
